The terms we hire on
Written to be read once and understood, rather than to be unarguable.
Booking and deposit
A date is held for ten days at no charge once, on request. It becomes a booking when a signed agreement and a twenty five percent deposit reach us. Until both arrive the date stays visible as free on this site and anybody may take it.
What the hire fee buys
The space named in your agreement from ten in the morning until one the following afternoon, every table and chair we own, the bar and cellar, parking, and two of our staff for the day. It does not include catering, drink, staffing after midnight, or tax.
Minimum spend
Five thousand on food and drink, in every month of the year. It applies to food and drink only and never to the hire fee. Below roughly fifty nine guests it is the figure that sets your bill, which is why a smaller wedding here costs more a head. The calculator on the budget page shows the exact crossover for your own numbers.
Moving the date
Once, to any date in the same season band, for nothing. Moving from a Peak date to a Quiet one refunds the difference; moving the other way you pay it. This is a term rather than a favour, so it does not depend on who you speak to.
Cancellation
The deposit is not refundable, because the date comes off sale the moment you take it. Beyond the deposit, nothing further is owed if you cancel more than one hundred and eighty days out. Inside that we will resell the date if we can and charge you only what we cannot recover.
Music and noise
Amplified music stops at midnight and the bar closes at half past. Acoustic music in the walled garden may run to one. These are conditions of our licence, not preferences.
Damage
You are responsible for damage caused by your guests and suppliers. We do not hold a blanket damage deposit; we invoice for what is actually broken, with photographs.
Our own failure
If we cannot host your wedding for a reason within our control, we refund everything paid and pay the cost of moving to a comparable venue, capped at your hire fee. If it is outside anybody’s control we refund everything paid.
